Coding, Robotics and Tinkering - Van Le, Engineer

Coding improves problem-solving. We encourage learning code through hands-on activities that stimulate creativity in a young child’s mind. We put the power to play into their hands by teaching them to design their own projects.

Gears are important in building robots. As kids build simple machines with gears and motors, they will learn the basic mechanism of gears and pulleys, and prepare the kids for the next level of robotic tinkering.

These camps are guided by Acton Academy East Bay’s Robotics instructor, Van Le. Van Le is a Principal Software Engineer and has been programming for over 20 years. She received a bachelor’s degree in computer science from UC Berkeley. She is passionate about helping children discover their passion for computer science.

Ceramic Art Workshop for Kids - Thien Dao, Artist, Instructor & Gallery Owner

Going back thousands of years, the art of making pottery has evolved from very simple plates and bowls to beautiful pieces in modern time. Clay is ideal for children as clay is easy to handle while allowing children creativity. Clay art is fun and educational, as these projects help to bridge the gap between the virtual and real world. Each child will start and finish the project and have a piece to bring home. There will be an art exhibition at the end of the workshop to showcase everyone's masterpiece.

Thien Dao discovered her love of ceramics during a college art class and received her Bachelor of Arts in 1991 in the Fine Arts program in California. She now teaches art classes in Auburn, CA and owns her own studio and art gallery.
