The Elementary Studio: Where Curiosity Meets Independence
At our Bay Area private school, the Elementary Studio is where curiosity, creativity, and independence come together to shape tomorrow’s leaders. Learners take true ownership of their education; setting weekly and monthly goals, working at their own pace, and collaborating with peers through Socratic discussions, hands-on projects, and team-building challenges.
Core academic skills like reading, writing, and math are mastered through self-paced learning tools and personalized goals. Our focus on mastery over memorization ensures that every learner builds both confidence and competence.
Quests That Cultivate Innovators
Afternoons are dedicated to “Quests,” immersive, project-based experiences that explore science, history, the arts, and entrepreneurship. These interdisciplinary explorations make learning exciting and deeply relevant while nurturing curiosity, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving.
One of our signature quests is the Children’s Business Fair, an annual event that empowers learners to become real-world entrepreneurs. As part of our curriculum, each learner ideates, pitches, and selects a business concept aligned with their interests and passions. After their idea is green-lighted, they must plan every detail. From innovation and prototyping to sourcing materials, managing costs, and pricing their product or service for market.
But this isn’t just theory. Learners launch their businesses at a high-traffic, one-day marketplace open to the community. They sell their offerings, engage with real customers, and develop essential communication skills by conversing with strangers: turning the unfamiliar into confidence-building opportunity. This experience builds resilience, adaptability, and a mindset of innovation.
Math Mastery with Khan Academy
We use Khan Academy, a globally respected platform, as the foundation for math instruction. Every learner must reach 85% mastery in a concept before they can move on, ensuring they’re not just “getting by,” they're truly learning.
One of the platform’s powerful features is its adaptive learning technology. As learners progress, the system periodically revisits past topics. If a concept has been forgotten, the learner is automatically guided back to re-learn it, reinforcing true understanding over time. This ensures a rock-solid foundation that supports future growth in mathematics and problem-solving.
And because we don’t limit learners by age or grade level, those who are passionate and driven can advance as far as their curiosity takes them. Whether they’re reviewing third-grade fractions or diving into high school algebra, they’re free to move forward; no ceiling, no holding back.
Physical Education
We believe a strong body supports a strong mind. Learners participate in physical education next door in a state-of-the-art 26,000 square foot gymnasium. Whether it’s flag football, volleyball, Quidditch, jogging, or a creative group game, learners get the chance to move, collaborate, and play in a space that supports both competition and joy.
Hands-On & Collaborative Learning Spaces
Throughout the day, learners engage in a mix of individual and group work in dynamic breakout areas designed to support multiple learning styles. Whether building a prototype, conducting a science experiment, or brainstorming a new business idea, they’re always immersed in purposeful, hands-on learning that keeps them challenged and engaged.
Because we’re located in the heart of the Bay Area — surrounded by entrepreneurs, innovators, and change-makers — we know how important it is to build these skills and mindsets early. We’re not just preparing children for the next grade — we’re preparing them to lead with confidence in a rapidly changing world.
